Roadcheck 2016 Dates Announced

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced the dates for the 29th annual Roadcheck.  Roadcheck 2016 will take place June 7-9, 2016.

Roadcheck is a CVSA-sponsored program.  Each year, state, local, federal and provincial inspectors throughout North America perform truck and bus inspections.

“During International Roadcheck, inspectors primarily conducted the North American Standard Level I Inspection, which is the most thorough roadside inspection. It is a 37-step procedure that includes an examination of both the driver and vehicle. Drivers are required to provide items such as their license, endorsements, medical card and hours-of-service documentation, and are checked for seat belt usage and the use of alcohol and/or drugs. The vehicle inspection includes checking items such as the braking system, coupling devices, exhaust system, frame, fuel system, lights, safe loading, steering mechanism, drive line, suspension, tires, van and open-top trailer bodies, wheels and rims, windshield wipers, and emergency exits on buses,” the CVSA states.

During the 72-hour inspection period, more than 10,000 CVSA-certified inspectors perform inspections on approximately 17 trucks or buses every minute!

Each year inspectors focus their efforts on a category of violations. In 2015, inspectors focused their efforts on load securement. During the 72-hour blitz, 2,439 citations were issued for improper load securement.  The CVSA will announced 2016’s area of emphasis in April.

During the 2015 blitz, 69,472 inspections were conducted– 44,989 were Level 1 inspections. Of those, 1,623 (3.6%) of drivers and 9,732 (21.6%) were paced out of service– the lowest OOS rate since 1991.

Thank You! BE SAFE OUT THERE!
