Police Chase Impaired Trucker From Georgia To Florida

Trucker Spotted Driving Erratically

Florida-based truck driver Eddie Dean Woody, 66, was reportedly spotted driving erratically on I-75 in Lowndes County, Georgia around 9 p.m. on Wednesday night. A sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the truck, but Woody allegedly did not even slow down for the officer.

Police Say Trucker Tried To Hit Them

More law enforcement officers joined in the pursuit, including Georgia State Troopers. One officer pulled up next to the truck to try to get Woody’s attention, but the truck swerved toward the patrol car and nearly hit the officer. Woody allegedly swerved to try to hit a law enforcement officer at least one other time during the pursuit.

Florida law enforcement joined the pursuit when Woody’s truck crossed state lines. Troopers said that Woody’s driving continued to be erratic and that he swerved across all three lanes. Stop sticks were deployed but without success.

Chase Ends In Crash Into Guardrail

The pursuit finally ended 8 or 9 miles into Florida when the truck hit a guardrail and came to a halt.

Police found prescription medication in Woody’s truck. A field sobriety test determined that he was under the influence of prescription drugs.

Woody will face charges in Florida before he is extradited back to Georgia. The charges he is facing include driving under the influence of drugs, aggravated assault, attempting to elude law enforcement, failure to maintain lane, and reckless driving.

Woody was driving a truck owned by JNJ Express, Incorporated, of Memphis, Tennessee.

No one was injured during the pursuit.
